Originally from Hong Kong, China, Ng Cheuk Hei (Alfred) is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Information Art and Design at Tsinghua University under the supervision of Professor Xu Yingqing. He received his bachelor’s degree in Product Design from Huaqiao University. His research interests include AI and design, human-computer interaction, embodied intelligence, affective computing, intelligent creativity-support tools, and cultural technology. He is particularly interested in how AI can become an interpretable, controllable, and collaborative cognitive partner in real design, creative, and learning workflows. Alfred has interdisciplinary experience across design, AI industry practice, and entrepreneurship. He previously worked in the President’s Office at Zhipu AI, participating in strategic work and the “Z-Plan” incubation program, including early-stage product evaluation and AI startup research. He was also involved in Google’s “Grow With HK” project and served as an assistant to Professor Pamela Burnard at the University of Cambridge. He is currently co-founder of PaintPilot AI, co-founder of Zhijie Fusion, and an active participant in the Tsinghua FuRoc THMOS embodied-intelligence robot soccer team and the Tsinghua X-Lab AI program. As a member of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China (HKCCC), he also pays close attention to collaboration opportunities for Hong Kong youth in Beijing’s AI, design, and innovation ecosystem.

Research Project

• Human habitat data collection and machine-empathy-driven design iteration. Participated in human habitat data collection within Xinyi Fu’s team, taking primary responsibility for the millimeter-wave radar data module. By deploying two opposing IMU millimeter-wave radars and synchronizing their timing and frequency, he helped establish a stable spatial data collection environment for multimodal human-habitat data.

• PaintPilot: a process-aware multimodal AI copilot for professional digital painting. The project addresses the mismatch between prompt-centric GenAI tools and staged professional painting workflows by exploring an agentic system with analysis, orchestration, and execution agents. It supports short language commands, rough strokes, and region selection while emphasizing stage awareness, reversibility, layer-safe output, and artists’ agency.

• Carbon Cruise: an ambient narrative eco-feedback system for household waste. The project combines a sensor-augmented bin, vision-language classification, 3D reconstruction, and a projected “Journeying World” to translate disposal actions into low-intrusion narrative feedback, supporting ecological reflection in domestic life.

• “Knowledge Forest” design-knowledge platform and AI-assisted learning interface. The project investigates visualization and navigation mechanisms for complex design knowledge, integrating cognitive load theory, constructivist learning, AI-assisted knowledge discovery, knowledge graphs, multimodal interaction, and elements of Eastern aesthetics for future design education.

• Technology for Hong Kong intangible cultural heritage: humanoid robot Hakka unicorn dance. This project explores the integration of motion capture, robot locomotion control, multi-robot collaboration, and AI interaction to reinterpret and disseminate Hong Kong’s Hakka unicorn dance through humanoid robots.

• Tsinghua FuRoc THMOS robot soccer and embodied-intelligence practice. Participates in the THMOS team, using small humanoid robot soccer competitions as a testbed for embodied intelligence, locomotion control, multi-agent strategy, and system-level collaboration.
