Introduction

“Media” refers to not only news media but also the ways in which built environments impact the entire society. How could we make the functions of complex building systems such as hospitals and museums more salient? How do furnishings of public space support flexible and open use? How does ordinary landscape help form people’s perceptions of the local community? Space could be meaningful media, and media could be reversibly spatial with specific forms and utilities. The resonation among habitat design, building technology, and humanities will introduce brand new types of cities that both invoke happiness and are practical.

Spatial Planning for Beijing Municipal Administrative Center

The Design Town is an important component of Beijing Municipal Administrative Center (BMAC). The team focuses on combining innovative city technology with innovative urban design, and works to build a smart infrastructure for the modern design industry, implementing modern technology in a way that fits the goals of the public community and aids city development. By setting up inspiring social innovation scenarios, we improve the image of BMAC, nurture its lifestyle and bolster its economy. Basing off this result, the team conducts in-depth research about modern city innovative spaces including museums, maker spaces, and technology parks, and works on related planning and design consulting projects ranging from “soft” to “hard”.
