2017 Tsinghua University - Geneva SDG Summer Program starts

Yesterday, the Tsinghua University team participating in the 2017 Sustainable Development Goals Summer School arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, and the students and teachers are looking forward to the two-month study and practice that will begin soon. The program is jointly organized by Tsinghua University and the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in cooperation with relevant UN organizations and agencies. Through selection, 12 university and postgraduate students from 12 faculties of Tsinghua University will work with 12 university and postgraduate students, 4 secondary school students and 2 primary school students from 11 famous universities in Switzerland, India, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, Angola, Ghana, Belgium, Peru and other countries. Some teachers from Tsinghua Primary School and Tsinghua Middle School participated in this summer school. In addition, 10 students from Tsinghua University went to Vietnam to participate in a collaborative project with UNICEF Beijing and Vietnam offices. The SDG Summer School is strongly supported by

The first phase of the 2017 SDG Summer School will be a two-week course of study and exchange activities at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and its related international organizations, including listening to presentations by experts and scholars from the United Nations and related organizations and the University of Geneva, and discussing with experts from relevant UN agencies on how to promote the implementation and enforcement of SDG. The concept of SDG was presented to address pressing global issues. In the second phase of the summer school, the students will be divided into nine groups and travel to New York, Paris, Geneva, and Ho Chi Minh City to work in teams for four weeks on research, design, and prototype development for different projects. In the third phase of the summer school, all students will come to Tsinghua University (Beijing and Shenzhen campuses: Tsinghua University Lifelong Learning Lab, Tsinghua University Shenzhen Research Institute, Tsinghua University Open FIESTA, etc.) to work together on the design prototypes.

The summer program encourages students to actively participate in Tsinghua University, the University of Geneva, and the cooperation with the United Nations and its related organizations, to develop a sense of global responsibility and further deepen their understanding of the mission of the United Nations and its concerns and pressing global issues. It also actively provides opportunities to combine theory and practice, allowing students to apply their classroom knowledge to solve problems of global concern and giving our future innovators the opportunity to actively participate in addressing the most serious challenges facing the world today.
